Welcome to Kloster Steinfeld
History & Monastery
Even though Steinfeld as a spiritual place has a history of more than 1000 years, we are celebrating (2 years late due to Corona) the 900th anniversary of the founding of the monastery in 2023.
In 1923 it was taken over by the Salvatorian order and revived. Today, the complex houses a hotel with café, a grammar school and the basilica.
Steinfeld Monastery is a monastery that lives in its time.
The Salvatorians are involved here, among other things, as the school sponsors of the Hermann-Josef-Kolleg, as teachers, as pastors in the GdG. Today, in addition to a monastery shop with a monastery café, the Salvatorians run the Steinfeld Monastery Academy and manage the guest house.
More about the Order of Salvatorian
With the move ot the Trapist Sisters from Dahlem to Steinfeld, spiritual life in Steinfeld is enlivened by another order.
Steinfeld is the Centre of the community of parishes “Gemeinschaft der Gemeinden” (GdG).
Foundation Kloster Steinfeld
The Foundation Kloster Steinfeld was established by the Salvatorians with the task of promoting spiritual and cultural life in Steinfeld. In addition, the foundation also promotes youth and adult education, charitable projects and the structural maintenance of the sacred facilities.
Education and culture
Steinfeld Monastery is a centre of education and culture. Next to the Hermann-Josef-Kolleg grammar school , you will find the academy with a wide range of adult education. Numerous concerts and events take place here regularly.
As a down-to-earth hotel, the guesthouse with its modernised four-star rooms offers a special ambience for individual guests or groups from companies, organizations, for weddings or other celebrations.

Kloster Steinfeld Monastery has been preserved more completely than almost any other of the thousand-year-old monasteries in Germany.
