The beginnings of ceiling painting can be dated to the first and second decade of the 16th century. In the course of the baroque period, it was hidden under white paint for a long time.
During the restoration of the basilica in 1930, most of the vault frescoes were rediscovered and “restored” by the restorer at the time, Josef Kurthen, which, according to the spirit of the times, included an additional enrichment of the paintings.
Only one element was preserved in its original condition above the organ stage for study purposes.
It is noteworthy that each scrollwork and each motif is unique.
