For the third time in a row, the Eifel Music Festival has to be postponed because of the Corona pandemic. The 75th anniversary festival will now be celebrated in 2023.
Steinfeld. The contrition is evident on the faces of those responsible - but there is no other way: "Unfortunately, we have to cancel the Eifel Music Festival again this year, for the third time in a row," says Gottfried Schnitzler of the Steinfeld Monastery Support Association. The association traditionally organises the music festival on the weekend after Whitsun.
The reason for the renewed cancellation is again the Corona pandemic and the associated imponderables last autumn and winter. A good six months before the concert weekend, advance ticket sales start and the rehearsals of the choir and orchestra begin. All this was cancelled again. At the end of March, the board of the Förderverein Kloster Steinfeld now decided to postpone the music festival until 2023 - born out of necessity.
This also means that the anniversary of the event, which was launched in Kloster Steinfeld in 1946 as a sign of a new beginning after the end of the Second World War, has been postponed again. The 75th Eifel Music Festival, which was scheduled for 2021, will not be celebrated until 2023.
"Now we are looking forward to next year all the more", says Gottfried Schnitzler. The Eifel Music Festival 2023 will presumably also have a new patron. At the last local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2020, Kloster Steinfeld is located in the municipality of Kall in the district of Euskirchen, Markus Ramers was elected district administrator to succeed Günter Rosenke. It is a good custom for the respective district administrator to make the Eifel Music Festival his business.
